At the official Serviced Apartment Awards ceremony organised in London last night, ILUNION Hotels was announced as a winner of the SAA “Profit with Purpose” award. GHS Directors of Sales, Chari Hettiarachchi and Gisleine Freitas were honoured to receive the award on behalf of our Hotel Partner.

Despite the current disruption in the travel industry, the event saw over 350 hospitality professionals and peers providing common ground of a leading community which works together to strength the industry, particularly important in this challenging times.

Embedding strong social and environmental values into their core business, ILUNION Hotels portraits the vivid image of the award by being a unique hospitality company established with the sole purpose to integrate those with disabilities into the workplace.

ILUNION Hotels is part of the social group ONCE (National Organisation of Spanish blind people) which was founded in Spain after the civil war to raise funds to provide services for the blind and people with serious visual impairment. ILUNION Hotels, on their continuous development and commitment to integrate people with disabilities, viewed those with different capabilities not as barriers, but as endless possibilities.

Born with the mission to provide employment for the disabled, ILUNION Hotels set the norm that each of their hotels must have a minimum of 40% of their staff having some sort of disability. What is more, ten of their hotels are run as Special Employment Centres, where over 70% of workers are those with some type of disability. This is a new kind of integration model in the tourism industry and can be used as an example to showcase workforce integration.
